Manny Bettencourt CA, CPA

Past Chair                   

Manny is a proven Financial, Operations and Technology leader who delivers in strategic and tactical mode.  His major strengths are in corporate finance, financial planning & analysis and operations. He is able to effectively recruit, lead, motivate, coach and delegate to members of a team. He has strong communications and relationship management skills. Additionally Manny has over 15 years of experience in the Information Technology and Telecommunications market. He is an outside the box thinker that is known for delivering real business solutions. He has extensive experience in public company environment as well as the IPO/RTO process.

Manny has many years of experience as Chief Financial Officer (CFO), Chief Operating Officer (COO), and Chief Technology Officer (CTO). His achievements include conversion to IFRS accounting standards from Canadian GAAP; designed the proof of concept for the Core financial platform, and managed the team that built the first three generations of that technology.

Additionally, Manny has provided senior management expertise to several Technology Companies.  Manny previously served as the Chairman and President of Dixie-Bloor Neighbourhood Community Centre, 2001-2008.

 

 

Margaret Bachle

Vice Chair

Margaret Bachle recently retired from the position of Vice President of Patient Care Services at Credit Valley Hospital in Mississauga, Ontario after 23 years in this position   She held the position of the Chief Nursing Executive and the Chief of Professional Practice also.  As part of this role she was responsible for many of the Allied Health professionals. The Reprocessing Department was part of this portfolio.  Margaret was selected by the International Society of Quality Assurance to speak at their international conference, once in Dublin Ireland and once in Paris France on the topic of professional practice.  As part of this role Margaret was the key person responsible for the implementation of the first Just-In-Time Inventory program in North America.  She also was a member of the committee who worked to combine the two hospital-owned laundry companies in Toronto to become the current Booth-Centennial Laundry. 

For sixteen years Margaret has been an accreditor for Accreditation Canada where she has accredited healthcare organizations both multi-site and single site, both rural and urban, internationally and across Canada.  She consults with healthcare organizations to assist them to achieve accreditation for their organizations such as St. Joseph’s Healthcare in London, Ontario.  She has coached hospitals and organizations in the Middle East and Canada to address recommendations resulting from their accreditation surveys successfully.  Margaret has prepared new surveyors to assume their roles both nationally and internationally.  Also, Margaret was the keynote speaker at the 3rd Annual Medical Device Sterilization Forum in October 2010 delivering two sessions at this conference and guest speaker at the National Surveyor Conference in August 2010. Margaret delivered two speeches at the 2009 conference as well.  Accreditation Canada staff selected Margaret to be the surveyor representative on their Reprocessing Committee in 2009.  This committee was responsible for the development of the Reprocessing standards and the Reprocessing Distinction program.  It also plans the annual national Reprocessing Conference.  Since 2010, Margaret has served on the Board of Directors of the Nucleus Independent Living organization and acts as the Vice-Chair.

 

 

Cyrus Durzi  H.BSc, B.Eng, P.Eng, MBA

Treasurer

Cyrus is an internationally accomplished executive with a successful track record of leadership in public and private industry.  A visionary, yet hands-on change agent who designs and implements complex cross functional initiatives with the ability to bring together people, processes and operations in the context of broad corporate strategic and industry goals.  Inspires trust, team building and stakeholder collaboration by improving organizational performance and consistently demonstrating high standards of leadership and customer service values.  A proven leader in all facets of operations planning, start-up management, business integration and process optimization.

Cyrus has worked as an independent management consultant in healthcare and private sector organizations.  He has been an effective change agent accountable for designing and implementing overall corporate start-up strategy and operations plan for their supply chain management including, elevating corporate performance, increasing profitability and maximizing partnerships.  Prior to his latter role, Cyrus was Director of Materials Management and Supply Chain in both the Public and Private Sectors.

 

Eve Adams

Eve Adams is a Senior Executive with 15 years of experience with the municipal, provincial and federal levels of government, in the private sector and with trade associations and regulatory agencies.  She has a deep understanding of government policy making, service reviews, long-term capital planning and budgeting processes.  Eve has extensive experience in successful, stakeholder engagement and community outreach on public policy development, government relations, issues management and corporate social responsibility as well as a vast knowledge of current legislation, trends and emerging issues. 

 

Dr. Salah Sharieh

Secretary

Dr. Salah Sharieh is a technology leader and a business savvy. In the last 20 years, Salah Shariah has delivered high-profile solutions and products. He provided vision and leadership to several industries including financial, telecommunication, manufacturing, and high tech.  Salah is a member in the Yeates School of Graduate Studies at Ryerson University where he supervised Ph.D. and Master Student. One of his areas of research is the new role of CIOs in the new Digital Economy.  Salah holds the degree of Doctor of Philosophy from McMaster University. He has more than twenty peer-reviewed publications and has contributed to several books. He also is a technical reviewer for several journals and conferences and is a member of the CIO Association of Canada, IEEE and ACM..

 
 

Mary McLean

Mary is an accomplished executive with extensive experience in the Canadian Health Care and Medical Devices industries.  A strategic leader with an accomplished track record in corporate and business excellence, change management and employee development, Mary has held a number of senior management positions, including President & General Manager of a multi-national organization. She has extensive experience in human resources, labour management, P&L stewardship and patient and health care advocacy across the spectrum of care. She currently works as an independent consultant in the Medical Devices industry. 

Mary holds a Masters of Business Degree from Queen’s University and a non-practicing nursing designation. She is an Oakville resident, a member of the Institute of Corporate Directors and a                 volunteer with the Kidney Foundation of Canada and has previously served on the Board of Directors for V.O.N. Canada, Halton Branch and as a sitting member of the MEDEC Wound Care           Committee.    

 

Vivek Joseph

Vivek Joseph is a Professional Engineer, and currently works at KGHM International as their Chief Process Improvement Engineer.  In this role, Vivek specializes in delivering business improvement solutions and developing the operations strategy for the company’s numerous mining assets in the US, Canada and Chile.

Vivek brings to the board over seven years of diversified work experience in strategy development, project management, operations management and business process improvement.

His educational background includes a Bachelor of Applied Science in Chemical Engineering from the University of Waterloo and a Master of Business Administration from the Schulich School of Business at York University. He is also a Certified Supply Chain Professional.

 

Marnie Lynn, BA, CHRL

Innovative and effective leader with exceptional negotiation and team building skills. Successfully worked with diverse stakeholders to build consensus and consistently achieve objectives. A strong generalist with proven ability to establish constructive and respectful relationships with staff, management and labour at all levels.

Trained facilitator for behaviour-base interviewing. Six Sigma greenbelt. Has presented at several events on recruitment services in LHIN 4.

Marnie currently is Director of Human Resources at The Children’s Aid society of Hamilton.  Previously, she was the Manager of Human Resources at Joseph Brant Hospital in Burlington.  

 

Narendra Shah

Chair

Narendra Shah is an accomplished healthcare executive who has demonstrated an ability to deliver mission-critical results by creating environments in which pragmatic solutions emerge and thrive to improve quality of care. He has over 30 years of senior management experience in diverse settings including a research organization, teaching and community hospitals in Toronto and Ottawa, the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long Term Care and as the Chief Operating Officer of the Mississauga Halton Local Health Integration Network from 2007 to 2013.

 He has successfully executed major pioneering strategies, leading the implementation of new organizations, mergers and reviews of complex hospital and local health care systems and program integration.

His leadership and experience resulted in him being seconded to assist the Health Services Restructuring Commission in 1997-99 to create health service plans for hospitals in two academic health science centres in Ontario. In 2003 he was seconded by the Ministry of Health to lead a team that supported two independent commissioners appointed by the Ontario Cabinet to review Ontario hospitals governance, management and financial capacity..

He has served on several boards including the Hospital Shared Services Inc. (Ottawa); the Southeast Ottawa Community Health Centre; and was on the Board of United Way of Peel Region where he chaired the governance committee.

 He has a keen interest in health care transformation, strategic planning, good governance; quality improvement and working with boards to improve organizational capacity. 

Currently, Narendra is the Chair of the Board of Nucleus Independent Living in Oakville, Ontario and is a member of the Board of Wellfort Community Health Centre in Brampton, Ontario.

Narendra has a master’s degree in Health Administration from the University of Toronto and is a Certified Health Executive with the Canadian College of Health Leaders. He has completed several governance educational programs including the Directors Education Program jointly offered by the Rotman School of Management and the Institute of Corporate Directors.

Cheryl Lyons RN, BScN, MScHSA

Cheryl is currently a Clinical Manager of Emergency at Niagara Health System, Greater Niagara (GNG) site. Prior to joining the Niagara Health System Cheryl was a Clinical Manager at Hamilton Health Sciences, West Lincoln Memorial site, a Nurse Educator in Critical Care at Joseph Brant Hospital in Burlington and many years as a staff nurse in the hospital setting.

Cheryl started her career in Toronto as a staff nurse working in the areas of acute medicine, dialysis, plastic surgery, critical care and emergency nursing.  Cheryl earned her BScN from Brock University and a Master of Science in Health Service Administration at D’Youville College in Buffalo.                                                                           

 

 

 

Garvin Linley

 

Garvin is an accomplished change leader with broad experience managing organizational transformation in retail, higher education, and various levels of government.

He believes building trust is essential to supporting individuals, teams and organizations through change.  “We are all stewards of change, from leadership, right through to front line employees, vendors and ultimately the customer (or consumer) – everyone is linked by the change.”

Garvin goes all-out to make the connection between an organization – its people – its product or service – and their customer a part of his DNA.  Through that process the foundation of trust is established and an open transfer of knowledge and information launches us down the path of change … together.
