Taking care of someone else can be rewarding—but everyone needs time to recharge. Caregiver Recharge provides short-term support so caregivers can step away with confidence while their loved one continues to receive quality care.

How it works

Caregiver Recharge provides short-term pre-scheduled support for persons with complex needs while giving caregivers an opportunity to rest and recharge.

In-home

support

Support is provided in the home, helping individuals remain comfortable in familiar surroundings while caregivers take a break.

Eligibility

Eligibility is based on understanding each client’s needs through a standardized assessment process. Clients must live in Oakville, Milton, Georgetown, Halton Hills, Mississauga, or South Etobicoke and have a valid health card number.

Common questions, answered

  • What is In-Home Respite?

    When you are the primary caregiver for someone with high needs, it can be stressful and take a toll on your wellbeing. Getting some temporary relief (respite) can give you the time you need to focus on your own wellness, and help you continue in your

    role as a caregiver. In-Home Respite occurs when a trained staff person provides care to the person you support at home, allowing you to temporarily step away from your caregiving role. 

  • Who qualifies for Caregiver ReCharge services?
    • A primary informal caregiver and care recipient who demonstrate a need and meet assessment eligibility criteria for services
    • One caregiving location that is within the Mississauga Halton geographic boundaries
    • Caregiver and care recipient must both be insured by the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP)
    • Caregiving support required must be able to be performed by a PSW
  • What does Caregiver ReCharge service cost?

    Caregiver ReCharge is funded by Ontario Health for caregivers who provide support to loved ones living in the South Etobicoke, Mississauga, Oakville, Georgetown, Milton and Halton Hills areas.

  • Who provides the support?

    Services are delivered by trained Care Coordinators, Personal Support Workers (PSWs), and skilled support staff.
