CARF Accreditation

Dec 12, 2022

Celebrating an achievement in quality. Nucleus awarded a Three-Year Accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities, CARF International.

In November 2022, Nucleus Independent Living was awarded a Three-Year Accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities, CARF International. The designation is the highest award possible through the accreditation program. To achieve accreditation, Nucleus must demonstrate that it conforms to a series of rigorous and internationally recognized CARF standards.

What is Accreditation?

Accreditation is an ongoing process of assessing health care organizations against standards of excellence to identify what is being done well and what needs to be improved. Receiving a CARF accreditation designation is evidence that an organization strives to improve efficiency, fiscal health, and service delivery -- creating a foundation for client satisfaction.

Over the course of three days – October 12-14, 2022, surveyors (a team of expert practitioners) from CARF Accreditation reviewed every document, policy and resource at Nucleus, as well as met with staff across all programs and roles. Here’s a summary of their findings:

“Nucleus Independent Living demonstrated substantial conformance to the standards. It was apparent that Nucleus has a strong commitment to the CARF standards and has excellent policies and procedures in place for serving the organization’s mission and enhancing its clients’ lives. There are mechanisms in place for continuous measurement and quality improvement. The organization has many strengths that include a professional board of directors and executive leadership team, a dynamic strategic plan, a focused workforce development and management department, a client-centred approach in services, and a high client satisfaction.”

In announcing its decision, CARF International singled out numerous Nucleus strengths, as well as highlighting 100% conformance in areas such as: health and safety, risk management, technology, accessibility, performance measurement and management as well as performance improvement.

“It’s wonderful to be recognized in this way. It means we are achieving what we set out to do every single day, for every single client and staff member – superior quality,” says CEO, Laura Salisbury. “Congratulations to the entire team and thank you to CARF for this experience.”
