Workplace of Choice: Celebrating Our People and Strengthening Our Culture

On April 29, 2026, Nucleus Independent Living hosted its first-ever stand-alone Staff Recognition Celebration, guided by the theme “Connected in Care: ONE Team, ONE Mission”, a milestone event that reflects both the evolution of our organization and our deepening commitment to our people. For 43 years, staff recognition was incorporated into the Annual Meeting of the Board of Directors. This year marked an intentional shift: a dedicated, daytime celebration designed to ensure all staff, particularly frontline employees, could participate fully and be celebrated among their peers.

Honouring Dedication and Excellence

At the celebration, 33 long-service recipients were honoured, representing an extraordinary 580 years of combined service. Their sustained commitment has not only shaped our culture but also strengthened our teams and enhanced the quality of care delivered to clients each day. We also celebrated two distinguished award recipients:

  • VIP Award – Allison Shand
Recognized for exemplifying our core values-Integrity, Collaboration, Compassion, Accountability, Respect, and Excellence- Allison’s professionalism, positivity, and dedication set a benchmark for excellence across the organization.
  • Founders’ Award – Beverley Brown
Honoured for her unwavering commitment to client-centred care, Beverley demonstrates the founding values of Nucleus through her compassion, leadership, and lasting impact on the community.

Workplace of Choice & Great Place to Work Alignment

The event carries even greater significance in light of our recent Great Place to Work® certification and the sustained efforts invested in advancing our Workplace of Choice strategic pillar over the past several years. It reinforces that our success is not only measured by the care we provide but also by the environment we create for those who deliver it. By investing in meaningful recognition and prioritizing staff experience, we are strengthening engagement, retention, and organizational resilience, critical factors as we navigate ongoing sector challenges and growth opportunities.

Equally meaningful was the feedback received from staff following the celebration. Their words speak directly to the culture we strive to cultivate and are a powerful example of what makes Nucleus a Great Place to Work®:

“Your dedication to staff welfare goes far beyond the workplace. Through valuable training opportunities, you have invested in our professional growth and empowered us to serve with greater confidence and excellence. These trainings… remind us that we are valued members of this organization.”

“What makes these acts truly meaningful is the message behind them: that management sees us, supports us, and recognizes the role we play in fulfilling the mission of this organization.”

“Such kindness strengthens morale, fosters loyalty, and inspires us to give our very best every day… Your continuous support motivates us to remain dedicated, professional, and proud representatives of Nucleus Independent Living.”

Recognition at Nucleus is not confined to a single event, it is embedded in our practices, from professional development opportunities to thoughtful initiatives that support staff both on and off the job. As we continue to advance our mission, the connection between employee experience and client outcomes remains clear: when our staff thrive, so do the individuals and communities we serve.

We look forward to building on this momentum and continuing to celebrate our people as the foundation of Nucleus’s success.
