Commitment to Equity, Diversity and Inclusion

Jun 17, 2022

How Nucleus is focusing on EDI.

Nucleus is committed to addressing racism and discrimination and reducing inequities in the health system. We value inclusion and diversity and recognize that our organizational culture needs to be equitable to contribute to better outcomes for staff who work here as well as the communities we serve.

Ethnically diverse companies perform 33% better than the norm. Organizations with strong diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) initiatives are more likely to have employees with increased job satisfaction, higher levels of trust, and be more engaged. Understanding the experience of our clients and staff will help us to understand our current situation and improve our culture.

Over the summer, we plan on focusing our efforts on conducting a thorough environmental scan to learn more about how Nucleus can better understand and address diversity, inclusion and equity.  We're also conducting an all-staff survey and 1:1 interviews to learn about the unique experiences of our staff.  All of this will lead way to the development of a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion strategy.  We look forward to sharing more!!

Unlock your Unconscious Bias

I encourage you to see her TedTalk: “How to Outsmart Your Own Unconscious Bias” and consider:

  • How does your own unconscious bias impact the work you do?
  • How could your own unconscious bias impact others at Nucleus?
  • What can you do to become more aware of your unconscious bias and how can you diminish it?

The human brain is a remarkable achievement in evolution. Unfortunately, the brain activity that kept the human species alive for millions of years is the same brain activity that keeps us from achieving equality today. Author, speaker and CEO, Valerie Alexander, explains how the human brain instinctively reacts when encountering the unexpected, like saber-toothed tigers or female tech execs, and proposes that if we have the courage to examine our own behavior when faced with the unfamiliar, we can take control of our expectations, and by doing so, change the world.
