Nucleus New Partnership Press Release

August 1, 2025

Nucleus is the first organization in Canada to become a Premier Partner with OPSWA.

For Immediate Release

Oakville, Ontario, July 31, 2025 — Nucleus Independent Living is proud to announce a unique collaboration with the Ontario Personal Support Workers Association (OPSWA), becoming the first organization in Canada to ensure that all Personal Support Workers (PSWs) are active members in good standing of their professional association. This milestone is not only historic for Ontario, but for the entire country, as it establishes how Canadians want to be supported in their communities and homes, and further recognizes the critical work of PSWs.

As OPSWA’s first Premier Partner, Nucleus is taking a bold step in raising the bar for standards, accountability, and professional excellence in home and community care. By guaranteeing professional association membership for every PSW, Nucleus reaffirms its commitment to recognizing PSWs as skilled professionals and ensuring they are supported with the resources, advocacy, and professional development they deserve.

"At Nucleus, we believe in our people, and know that they are the key ingredient to supporting clients and consumers in their homes and communities, with dignity, compassion, and expertise. This partnership goes beyond symbolism. It is a structural change that ensures our PSWs are supported in their daily work, as well as recognized, empowered, and aligned with a higher professional standard that all Canadians deserve." - Laura Salisbury, CEO, Nucleus Independent Living

“This initiative reflects how we want to support PSWs with real tools, real recognition, and a strong voice.” - Trish Maxwell, Vice President, Strategic Partnerships and Client Services.

This collaboration introduces Ontario’s first-ever professional practice guidelines for PSWs and sets a new benchmark for quality and accountability in care delivery across the sector. By supporting this initiative, Nucleus is helping lead transformative change in how PSWs are integrated into the healthcare system and how their roles are respected by both employers and the public at large.

For over four decades, Nucleus has been committed to delivering exceptional care and creating inclusive, respectful environments for both clients and staff. This partnership represents the next phase of that commitment, advancing both client outcomes and workforce growth and sustainability.
