A Day in the Life: Supports for Daily Living PSW, Tien Ma

What program do you work in?

I work in the Supports for Daily Living program.

How long have you worked at Nucleus?

I’ve worked at Nucleus for almost nine years!

Tell us about your typical work day/week?

On a typical work day, I visit around six or seven homes. There, I meet with consumers whom I get to talk to and build meaningful connections with. I prepare light meals, help them shower and get dressed, assist in their ROM exercises, and provide medication. If a consumer is in pain or feels unwell, I assist or comfort them how I can. When they feel down, I try to empathize with them and add positivity to their day!

What are the different tasks that take up most of your time in a typical day?

The tasks that take up most of my time include preparing light meals, helping consumers shower and get dressed, assisting in their ROM exercises, and providing medication.

What do you enjoy about your job?

I enjoy meeting many wonderful consumers and learning more about them, their stories, and their past. I’m grateful for this job because I get to serve and love people every day. I feel I can make a difference by entering their homes with a smile and positive attitude so that we are both happy by the time I walk out.

What brought you to Nucleus?

I appreciate the opportunities Nucleus provides me to work closely with consumers every day and to have a positive impact in the community around me.

What do you think your consumers say about you?

I think my consumers would say I always arrive with a good attitude and that they’re able to build positive relationships with me.

Is there anything else you would like to share?

Although it’s not an easy job, I think the PSWs at Nucleus have a large impact because we act as the eyes and ears in our community and we are able to add so much positivity. I’m proud of the work we get to do every day!
